A GREAT DAY FOR SOUTH LINCS STEELERS WALKING FOOTBALL CLUB

Back row: Al Wells, Mark Allen, Jason Putterill, Steve Hammond, Chris Briston. Front row: Mike Wells, Dylan Parker (mascot) Peter Paget.

Steelers Blues brought home the club’s first piece of silverware, winning the PDFL WF Division 2, and going the season unbeaten, racking up two more wins on the final day.

A hard fought 2-0 victory over Glinton & Northborough was followed by a 10-1 win against Netherton. The goals were shared around, Mick Wells & Alan Wells securing the points over Glinton, Mick Wells & Steve Hammond both bagging hatrick’s, Al Wells with 2 & a goal apiece for Jason Putterill & Mark Allen versus Netherton. Credit goes to Netherton for never dropping their heads & playing until the final whistle.

In Division 3, Whites & Clarets had earlier played out a tight affair, with Clarets claiming a narrow 3-2 win. Goals from Lee Nolan, Tony Fry & Tony Bean for Clarets, Phil Cooper & Mark Allen netting for Whites.

Both teams struggled thereafter, Whites going down to Hampton, Clarets losing to Levy Lions & league winners Harborough. Watching from the sidelines, I have seen Whites make vast improvements as the season has progressed, today playing 3 excellent halves of walking football. In their first season & with many debutant players, Clarets had started like a train, picking up plenty of points in the early rounds. A lot to feel positive about for all, and new players becoming available for next season too.

But the day goes to our club. Every player that has represented all 3 teams this season have given their all and played with pride, and you can’t ask for more than that.

We hope you have all enjoyed it.

Thank you to the PDFL for their impeccable organisation of the leagues, and thank you to all the referee’s that have made the games possible.

Regards,

SLS WFC committee.
