Reflections on South Lincs Steelers first Walking football Trophy

6 years after the founding of walking football in Spalding, and nearly 4 years after the club formed as South Lincs Steelers Walking Football Club during the 2020 pandemic, the first piece of silverware has been achieved. A hard fought 3-2 win over Oakham clinched the title, followed by a nervy 2-2 draw against Stamford and that ensured The Blues remain unbeaten so far this season, but still 2 games to go in the final round.

As the PDFL walking football league has evolved since we first entered, so has our club. In our first season, with just the one team entered, we found it hard going, taking some heavy defeats but with the odd win in there too, notably a 3-2 victory over the eventual winners, Wisbech Town WFC.

The following 2 seasons were also difficult in the top division but many games were close, taking most opposition teams to the wire. We like to think they all knew they’d been in a tough game against The Steelers though.

With increased attendances at training, and many players wanting to play league football, we entered Steelers Whites into the league last year. This season has seen even more members join and we entered a third team at short notice, Steelers Clarets. All teams are doing the club proud.

The administration committee, secretary Jason, treasurer John, welfare officer Phil, and myself, “Chairman” Jamie would like to thank all of our members for their attendances and hope that you are all enjoying playing walking football with our club. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about!
